Otium for community builders

The room, the ritual and the billing in one place

Sell a monthly membership to a private place on your own site. Members can read posts, reply, take a course, and manage their own payments. One subscription covers the room and everything around it — the page, the course, the emails — where community tools alone start around $99 a month.

The honest take

Paid communities live or die on one thing: a ritual worth showing up for.

The software should be the cheap part. A place to talk. One important weekly post. Payment that works.

That is what Otium gives you, beside the page and email list that help new members find the room.

The plan

  1. 1

Explain why the room is worth joining

Otto builds a page that explains who the room is for, what happens each week, and what members pay each month.

  2. 2

    Keep one weekly habit

Post as the host, keep the weekly thread at the top, and let members show which replies helped them.

  3. 3

Keep the course beside the conversation

Members can open the course from the same private area. Emails bring them back when there is something worth reading.

  4. 4

    Keep the room tidy

Keep posts at the top, remove them, or restore them later. Members return with a code sent by email.

Questions

What happens when a member's payment fails?

Stripe retries the card during a short grace period. If payment still fails, access pauses until the member updates their card.

Can I see and remove anything?

Yes. You can keep a post at the top, remove or restore posts, delete comments, and post with a host label.

Skool or Otium?

If points and leaderboards are central to the experience, Skool does more. If you want the community beside your page, course, payments, and emails, Otium keeps them together. See /vs/skool for the full comparison.
